I LIKE ENABLING OTHERS TO GROW, AND KEEPING THINGS SIMPLE.
Growing up I had a real passion for sports – I was a runner, netballer, basketballer and touch rugby player. I was placed nationally in middle distance running at high school, and represented the North Island at netball when I was at university. I guess it’s not surprising that I did a sports degree, which led to a post-grad degree in sports management.
After working in the sports area for a few years, my career shifted naturally into Human Resources and I went on to do a Post Graduate Diploma in Human Resource Management.
I was working at Metlifecare, in their property portfolio, when I first became aware of Ignite. I loved what they did, the design process and the spaces they created. I appreciate the practical side of architecture, perhaps because I grew up on a farm and my brother was a builder. It takes a highly skilled team to create a great building.
These days, I believe leadership is all about coaching. People often know the right answer so leadership is about asking the right questions and helping them navigate past roadblocks. I’m currently studying a Diploma in Coaching and still learning every day. I love listening to other paradigms – people amaze me with all they know. We can always widen our perspective.
Outside work I enjoy travel, comedy, playing the guitar, family time with kids, going to the gym, time in nature and mountain biking. On the weekend I’ll head to the mountain bike trails – that’s my favourite place. You could call me an active relaxer with energy to burn.
