Ignite Architects is pleased to announce the appointment of Neil Wyatt as Associate Director. An internal promotion, the new role recognises his successful leadership of the company’s Christchurch office over the past three years. It also acknowledges his contribution to Ignite projects across the Canterbury region, and nationwide.

A Registered Architect (UK), Neil has amassed considerable experience over his career both in the UK and New Zealand. This has seen him work across industry sectors including commercial, retail, health care and hospitality. He has played a key role in Ignite’s rebuild projects for the Canterbury region, such as the new Farmers Rangiora development and the Sudima Hotel/Knight Frank House in the CBD.

“Neil has been instrumental in the creation of Ignite’s Christchurch studio, and the sustained regional growth this office has achieved since its founding three years ago,” said Grant Armstrong, Director at Ignite Architects. “This promotion reflects our confidence that Neil will continue to build on this strong base by leading our people, collaborating with our local design partners, and delivering great design and commercial value outcomes for our Canterbury clients.”

Ignite’s design of Christchurch’s new Entertainment Exchange demonstrates the office’s extensive capabilities. A brownfield development, the new complex will feature seven cinemas and a dining precinct. This landmark site is located at the corner of Colombo, Lichfield and Tuam streets in the CBD, and construction of the three-level building is currently underway. It will be a key hospitality destination attracting people back into the city centre.

Another notable local project is Akaroa Health Hub. This new community-owned, integrated health centre will restore an essential resource for the town. Ignite Christchurch’s office has carefully considered the design the solution so that it delivers a cost-effective building which can cater for the needs of general healthcare, palliative and aged care patients.

The growth of the Christchurch office reflects the company’s continued expansion. Ignite now operates five offices in New Zealand and Australia with a rapid growth path based on its successful track record in delivering creative, innovative and commercially astute masterplanning, architectural and interiors projects.
