Ignite is pleased to announce the appointment of Phaedra Applin as Associate Director. Phaedra is an architect and interior designer with more than 20 years’ experience in Europe, Asia and the Pacific.
Phaedra will oversee the growing hospitality, interiors and tourism team at Ignite. She will also leading key projects which currently include the Lava Hotel in Samoa, and the interior design for the Sudima Hotel and the HOYTS Entertainment Exchange project in Christchurch.
Phaedra’s extensive experience includes establishing architecture firms in Malaysia, the UK and Fiji, and leading projects such as Sun Microsystems’ £60 million office and campus development in London and the award-winning Lake House in the UK. She has also managed a number of resort projects in the Pacific including the Lomani Resort and The Tokoriki Island Resort.
“We are excited to have Phaedra onboard,” said Grant Armstrong, Director at Ignite. “She brings a wealth of design leadership experience and an attuned client focus to the dynamic, high growth and fast converging sectors of tourism and hospitality.”
“Today’s leisure customer demands authentic, fresh and memorable experiences, and under Phaedra’s direction the Ignite team is better positioned to continue to successfully deliver best in class experiential projects,” added Grant.
Passionate about architecture and interiors, Phaedra believes design should reflect the contextual environment, local materials and influences, and be designed with passive environmental considerations and the local climate in mind.
Phaedra says it is important that each design has integrity, a story, a strong idea that is followed through, and that it reflects an understanding of the client’s objectives and meets those with a solution.
An accomplished sailor, Phaedra has sailed around the world with a young family in tow, and is enjoying life in Auckland, where she is quite at home sailing her yacht to Waiheke to visit the vineyards.
