About

I am here to advance human well-being through architecture. Architects have a core obligation to consider our health and well-being in the design process, given that we spend over 90% of our time indoors and our environment and socioeconomics are the two most influential determinants of our health (above genetics, medical care, or what choices and behaviours we adopt). These two determinants of health are heavily defined by the decisions of architects and urban designers, and my approach is to uncover “collective genius” to support this. This requires every contributor within a project to be collaborative, connected, and authentic and to operate in a high-trust environment.

A key part of my role is to develop strong relationships between the Ignite team, our consultants, and partners. I encourage us to challenge our best talents to collectively deliver exceptional architecture.

Inspiration

Seeing people challenge, support, and drive each other to do better, and make a difference through their design work is incredibly inspiring. It’s important to routinely challenge ourselves as to whether we are being good ancestors through our work – our projects serve the future

My favourite project from leading the 2018 Festival of Architecture in Tauranga – Te ātea – a laneway exposition.
I’m inspired by Japanese architecture and art nouveau where inherent decorative detail connects with nature.
Cycling the Col du Soulor in the Pyrenees.
