“The biggest challenge we face in architecture is the unspoken responsibility we have to shape and adapt the modern lifestyle”

THE CHALLENGE IS ALWAYS TO CREATE SOMETHING THAT’S AESTHETICALLY PLEASING, YET FUNCTIONAL.

I grew up in Hamilton and was always interested in art and design, and particularly architecture towards the end of my schooling. After leaving school I decided a career in architecture was for me and furthered my study while working in an architect’s practice. Since then I’ve never looked back.

Being based in London for five years really opened my eyes. As well as working on large and diverse projects, I was able to travel widely and experience places and buildings, like Hagia Sofia in Istanbul and the Duomo in Milan, which were designed and engineered centuries ago, using techniques that still aren’t really understood today.

The biggest challenge we face in architecture is the unspoken responsibility we have to shape and adapt the modern lifestyle. As a project lead there is a responsibility to ensure the building and space functions exactly as the client and the end user intends, while we also look to push the boundaries of design.

Outside work I love to travel and experience new cultures. Golf is a big passion of mine as well, and I try and get out whenever I can.
