Guided by BMW’s Brand Architecture principles

The Continental Cars BMW showroom brings the brand and its premium aspirations to life, providing customers with a unique retail experience. Located on a sloping site, the dealership is stepped in form and spread across four levels. The design takes full advantage of its high-profile Wairau Road location, facing Auckland’s busy Northern Motorway.

Building on Ignite's long-standing relationship with the client, we partnered with Continental Cars early in the design stages to truly understand the vision for this project.

The complex comprises a showroom at road level, mezzanine offices and car parking on level two, and a retail zone and cutting-edge workshop on level three. The top level, which is highly visible from the motorway, is home to a ‘hero’ car display that features the most aspirational vehicles in the BMW brand.

The building’s crisp outer shell of layered white slabs, paired with the hovering rood and glazing, create a generous sense of space with maximum transparency to showcase the cars within. The showroom features the new BMW Future Retail initiative, including dedicated areas for M Sport and BMW i.

The heart of the BMW showroom is the ‘Driving Gallery’. Cars are placed in two staggered rows, as if on a road, and the use of anthracite floor tiles distinguish the gallery from other areas of the building.

50,000 litres of rainwater are stored on the upper levels of the site, which is used to wash both service and showroom vehicles. What was once a massive trade waste cost is now running at 90% efficiency.
